Blogger's Quilt Festival Quilt - Baskets!

Welcome to all who are visiting for the Blogger's Quilt Festival!
Twice a year, Amy of Amy's Creative Side hosts this quilt festival for quilters to link up to. It's soo much fun to spend hours blog hopping and seeing all the newly made treasures!  (not to mention finding some awesome new blogs!)
This is my first time participating this. I guess I'm just a little shy about jumping in. But this time, I figured I hadn't even shown you how my basket quilt came out finished - so perfect timing, right? :)
I finished this one right after finishing the teacher's quilt... so early June?
And I do love it!
Using all medium and light value fabrics, this was done completely improv. Wack and sew! My favorite way to make a quilt! LOL
It's a twin size, but we're using it as a big throw at 86"x78"

I had really been wanting to make a basket quilt, and those floral Denyse Schmidt fabrics just inspired me to jump in make this... and once I got started, it just rolled -I  love it when that happens! There's bits of Authentic by Sweetwater throughout the quilt (still one of my all time favorite lines) And the border is a mix of Sweetwater's Hometown blues - lines and text, and then just bits and pieces of other favorites. I started off using several yellow fabrics as a base for the basket blocks, but then just ended up using it as a "connector" throughout the quilt. It was just plain FUN!

I used two vintage sheets on the back

The handles were cut on the bias, and folded under and appliqued on - by machine. Maybe you remember my struggle of trying to figure that out, here? :)
I quilted it in figure 8's  all across the quilt... i wanted the blocks to take center stage, not the quilting.

Quilt stats:
Size 86" x 78"
Special Techniques used: none really? Unless you count learning how to bend those darn bias handles? lol Oh.. and improvisational piecing
Quilted by: Me, on my vintage 1956 Dressmaker Machine :)
Best Category:  Favorite Bed Quilt, Home Machine Quilted, Scrap Quilt

Thanks for stopping by!
I hope you have fun on the blog hop! :)

I adore this quilt! It reminds me a bit of my own basket quilt, which is my fave here at home. I love the soft colors and the log cabin blocks...
