DQS quilt

Ok, so in my little rant yesterday, I didn't fully explain what the doll quilt swap IS ! LOL All the participants are divided up into groups of 12 or 14 or so, and put under a swap mama or papa. Each "parent" manages the needs of their "babies". :) We were all matched up with someone to give TO, and then someone that will be making a quilt for us. So... i got my swap partner's name, and info... and now it's my job to start stalking her. LOL And it's secret. (ssshhhh) I have to figure out her likes and dislikes, which direction her tastes run, her favorite colors, etc... and then design and make a little doll quilt for her!! Ooohh mannn. I gotta tell ya... i was struggling!!! My secret partner doesnt have much in her favorites... and what she does have contradicts what she says she likes and doesn't like! So i was confused!! :( Well I have been chewing (quite heavily) on it for a couple days now, and finally came to a couple conclusions!! Woohooo!! So i decided to put some ideas in motion today! I am going with her words, more than her pictures, (although they played a small part in my direction too). I suuurreee hope i am on the right path!! I don't want to dissapoint her!! I really want her to like it! So, I'm stepping wayyyyyy out of my box! And I am sooo unsure!! I keep questioning "is this tooo wild?" "what if she doesn't like that color?" "what if, what if, what if...???" LOL But i KNOW she likes these colors. AND i KNOW she likes brights! So I can't be TOO far off..... riiiiggghhhttt?? Here's a sneak peek. Maybe she's reading my blog right now!? I got the top done today. Well... MOSTLY done. LOL I have a few other plans for it before quilting. And i gotta say... i am soooooooo nervous i'm going to screw it up and have to start all over! **beads of persperation forming on forehead** I have the month of august to get it done and shipped . Oh man.. talk about a case of nerves! LOL ***** NOTE to MY designer **** Please please please do NOT stress yourself out like this!!! LOLOL I will LOVE anything you make!!!!! The fact that YOU made it is what will excite me the most!! Honest injun! :D And i am soooooo wide open right now, it's not even funny! LOL So HAVE FUN, and put your personality into it! :D

We have all felt the same way! I was so nervous in my first DQS that I almost cried when it took my partner a week to respond after receiving the quilt I made. She went out of town and ended up loving it! I think you chose correctly in following what she said vs. what she choose as favorites. I know I for one have favorites where I like a design element or pattern, but not colors or overall quilt design. Keep up the good work and make something that makes you happy!

P.S. I personally really like the snippet of colors you choose!

i just want to say you were smart to go with what she said as opposed to what she favorited. i favorite when i like patterns but not necessarily colors, and colors but not necessarily the pattern. so you did good! i really like what you have done, i tink your partner will love it!!

You were right to go with your instincts. You have been the in the same place your partner has been, primitive vs. brights? I think it won't matter what you go with the love and care will show in your work. I love your color choices, and the pattern is a winner! Now enjoy!

I had a crisis just like yours and you said lovely words to me in the comment you made on the thread, so it's my turn! Just have fun with it, if your partner is a true quilter she'll love your work because you did it with all your heart just for her!!!
Not long ago i received a quilt from a swap that wasn't 100% me, but now that I think of it with what i just said in mind, I'M LOVING IT!!! It really changes your perspective!!!
Enjoy the process and she'll love the result!!
