Well it's been forever since I've blogged!
Figure it's about time, donchya think? :)

There has been a lot going on since Christmas. I won't bore you with all the details of everyday life though. lol
I've been quilting for others, and absolutely enjoying the heck out of it! :)
My son turned 16 at the end of January, and on the same day, my mom ended up in the emergency room with a ruptured disk. Still no clue HOW it happened? But God was definitely watching over her, that's for sure! Somehow, there was a cancellation in the surgeon's schedule for the next day, and she had emergency back surgery on the disc between her L4 and L5. (Let me just say that that in itself -the cancellation- was a miracle! He has a 10-12 week waiting period because him and his partner are soo booked!) I can't imagine living with the pain she was in for that long!! It was excruciating!
The surgery went very well, and my life was on hold while I was at the hospital with her. Then I went to stay with her for a little over a week to help during her recouperation. Everything went wonderful!! She just got the go ahead to go back to work! Already!! She is one happy camper!! :)

When I've had time to sew for myself, it's been in limited time frames - so I was having a hard time focusing on any big project! So, I would just work on a paper pieced block whenever I got the chance. (I'm not very great at these yet! So each block, consisting of 8 smaller triangles, takes me a couple of hours!)
Bailey had requested a new quilt. His has been battered and loved - AND it was the first quilt I made. LOL. Not having a clue what I was doing... and winged it from start to finish!
So he said, "now that you know what you're doing Mom, maybe you could make me another quilt?" - haha! How can I resist a kid that's that honest? :)
So he chose a mariner star/compass theme, after seeing the first two blocks from block of the month club from Don't Call Me Betsy.  We chose a couple more, (much more complicated ones) to go with them, and I've been slowly but surely working on them. :)
Ohhh also... he fell in love with architextures fabric! Can't say I'm disappointed in his choices! lol

And I ran out of that background. Of course. :)  And went in search of more, not knowing exactly which color it was. Jeez. Shoot me now. lol. I need a kona card!!!
The upper photos are more true to color, and it's Jade Green kona, in case you're curious. haha! It's more of a teal than a green!

And in other news....
The 13th Doll Quilt Swap is coming to a finish!
Here is the little quilt I made for my partner.

And the back..
I had a ton of fun taking this idea from possibility in my head to paper, to a mock trial to see if it was possible, to the finished product! I love how the curved string blocks turned into a curvy spider web!! :)
I was a bit worried about this little quiltie this last week... as it took extra long to be delivered to England, and I was afraid it had gotten lost! But it arrived yesterday!!! Phew!!! And she really liked it! (well at least she says she does! lol)
I also sent her a little pouch with some Denyse Schmidt strips, as she's working on a patchwork quilt with fun carnival colors and she doesn't have much of a stash yet. (she loves greens and blues, can you tell?)
Sooo much fun! I love swaps!!

I'm still eagerly waiting by my mailbox for mine to arrive! I'll make sure to post when it comes!! :)

I also managed to make 6 or 7 more pair of mittens, as my mom's friends and co-workers all had mitten envy, and kept stealing hers on the bitter cold days we had! lol

I have more to show you, but I'll leave it at that for today!
I have a few customer quilts to get back to! :)
I hope you are doing well, and staying warm! We just got hit with a blizzard last night... so I'm staying in today!
xo
Bren :)

Ps... i think I'm going to have to turn comment moderation back on :(    I am getting sooooo much spam to my comments! How do you all deal with it? I hate those little pictures of numbers and weird letters though, it makes it soo tough to comment! What are the other options though? Would love to hear your thoughts!

OMG! BRENIS!!! The quilting on that doll quilt is stupendous, amazing, fabulous, fantastic, AWESOME, to die for...your partner will faint dead away at the sight of it. Rock on! And, those blocks for Bailey's quilt are super...and the fabric is, of course, our fave!
