Quilting - The Next Step

practice... practice... practice...
until this
becomes this....

I (truly have no idea if it has anything to do with the fact that I'm a lefty?) was struggling with these swirls. Whenever I'd draw them, I kept turning the wrong way and boxing myself in! But hours of doodling with these and feathers and it finally clicked and I finally felt ready to tackle it on the machine!

I am soooo loving quilting! Free motion quilting is my favorite part of the whole quilt making process. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to do all the cutting and sewing to get to this part! I get so excited to try out new things! It's become all i seem to think about. I love having the freedom to do anything, whatever the quilt calls for! And I can't make a quilt until I can see what I'm going to do, in my head - and then it's straight out drive to get it done - so that I can start on the quilting portion!
I made this baby quilt the other day just for the sole purpose of making those feathers and swirls. For my first feathers, I don't think they turned out too bad! :)

I was going to do pebble quilting in the outer cross border, but as soon as I started , I knew they needed these instead! Lifesavers!! :)

It's the texture of the quilting that I love! Look at those swirls, you can just see the 3- dimensionality - doesn't it make you want to touch them?

exciting news...

Well, I had the honor of quilting a few quilts for a friend last month. :)  She was thrilled to have found someone local that she could trust, and I was thrilled to be entrusted to quilt her gorgeous quilts that she spent hours upon hours putting together! I had so much fun quilting for her, that when she asked if she could refer some of her friends my way, I eagerly said yes please!! :)
Well, that also meant trying to figure out pricing! And after a lot of research, discussions with my husband, and the help of my friend, I think I've settled into a fair pricing range.
And since I am brand new at offering this as a service, I am going to offer my friends and followers half off those already reasonable prices from now until Feb 1st of 2013.
So if you have quilt tops that are just hanging in the closet.. and you've been considering having them quilted, send me an email! Now's the time to take advantage of great pricing, and a quilter that's ready and waiting for you! I would love to help you finish them up so they can be put to good snuggle use!! :)

And Laurie and Jacque, thank you for the push!! :)

I definitely have a couple of quilts I'm interested in getting out of my closet's WIP pile! So send me some info re: cost & other requirements - do you have batting I could buy?

The quilting is beautiful and I am so happy to hear that you will be able to quilt for others. I know it will help you and your family out too. I plan on practicing more after the holidays, I have a few that need quilting and time to do them.
